Blue Apron Review - Week 12

I have been so busy the last few weeks that I have had to cancel out on Blue Apron.  This was one of the last ones I ordered and I even missed out on making one dish because I waited too long to cook it.  I really hate wasting food!

So happy to use banana leaf to steam!  Filipino cuisine uses banana leaves often for cooking and baking.  As my Mom calls it, "Nature's Foil."  I love the way rice cakes taste when baked in banana leaf.  This cod dish also had a great taste with a hint of banana leaf.  The rice had great flavors, but I would have liked to use a more sticky rice.

This was my favorite dish, because I love gnocchi!  It was very rich and could have used a glass of wine with it.  Hee hee!  I made this for dinner one night for one of my besties and she enjoyed it as well!

Again, with how busy my schedule is, I have been taking a break from ordering.  I'll pick this back up again maybe in a few weeks, but for now, this will be it for Blue Apron at the moment!

Blue Apron Review - Week 11

I will still rave about how great Blue Apron is, but I am tired and cooking for 1 that takes at least 35-45 minutes is a bit much.  I'll probably start doing it 1-2 times a month maybe more if I forget to cancel a week.  LOL!   My favorite for this week was the beef bolognese.  It was fun to make the sauce and I am a sucker for pasta, especially FRESH pasta.  Mmmmm!  If you are interested in trying Blue Apron, let me know!  I still have free meals to send.

Ended up making the soup for lunch hence the to-go presentation!

2014 Blue Apron Review

I'll admit I have been lazy lately and skipped out on Blue Apron.  I haven't had much time and with the holidays, my get togethers with people have been out and about.  Well, Blue Apron sent a nice email with my year in review.  I started off cooking these meals in September and in just 4 months, I cooked 60 meals!  I'm going to have to organize the recipes soon since the drawer I have them in is getting full.  Looks like a trip to Staples soon for some organizing supplies.

Looking forward to receiving an order this week and spending more time at home playing with make up and crafting.  :)  Are you interested in trying out Blue Apron?  Hit me up and I can send you an invitation for some free meals!

Blue Apron Review - Week 10

It took awhile to cook week 10's meals.  I actually made everything in one shot and it took 3 hours.  LOL!  I took the sandwiches and the schnitzel for dinner later.  I forgot to take pictures after I dished out.

My favorite out of the week and it was easy to make.  I can see myself making the schnitzel again.

The laing was interesting and can't compare with traditional Filipino laing. You really can't beat out the original in this case.  Still tasty and comforting with warm soup, but just not the same.

Taking a break from Blue Apron until the new year.  I haven't had the time or motivation

Blue Apron Review - Week 9

Favorite out of this bunch was the meatless Creamy Kale & Cauliflower Casserole.  I could have cared less for the salmon (again) and the turkey breast.  I'm getting really tired of receiving salmon as a fish protein.

I didn't have enough drippings from roasting the turkey and my gravy turned out fairly light.

As pretty as it looked, I am really tired of salmon.  Meh.

Blue Apron Review - Week 8

I love when I get steak!  The cuts are always great and the recipes are usually my favorite for the week.  The creamed kale was also delish, I wish there was more of it for the dish.  The next favorite was the Thai chicken meatballs, but the curry wasn't as soupy as I would have wanted it since there was a full pack of noodles for this dish.  Least liked was the crispy salmon dish.  Salmon, again.  You're killing me Blue Apron.  Please send me more variety of seafood!

Blue Apron Review - Week 7

Another good week!  2 out of 3 were great!  The one with the lowest score was still not too bad.  My favorite was the greek-style braised chicken thighs that I cooked for my BFF Sissy on a Saturday night.  I'm always surprised by the quality of chicken and how well it cooks, but I did have to do some follow up warming to cook it through.  The pan-seared salmon was also good, although I am kind of getting tired of salmon as the fish protein in my boxes.  Maybe cod again or even shrimp for seafood.  The least favorite was the caramelized fennel & kale bucatini.  There just wasn't enough sauce for the noodles, even after being freshly made.  I drizzled black truffle olive oil for a little bit more flavor when I heated the leftovers.

Blue Apron Review - Week 6

I liked everything this week!  All of the dishes this week were well liked and now that I am cooking for 1, I had great lunches.  I really enjoyed the garlic dressing for the Parmesan-Crusted Chicken with Kale Cesar Salad and Toasted Hazelnuts.

Blue Apron Review - Week 5

The winner this week was the Grains of Paradise-Crusted Steak!  Although the grains were very fragrant, the couscous salad had a good neutral flavor to complement it.  The Cheddar Biscuit-Topped Chicken Casserole could have used a bit more protein, but was also a good dish with plenty of vegetables.  The Crispy Fish Tacos were my least favorite due to the labor intensiveness of the preparation for only 3 tacos per person.  I did enjoy making the salsa verde and would make that part of the recipe again.
