Crafting From Bed: Valentine's Day Treats

For my Gabriela Seattle Sistahs!  Love should be celebrated everyday!  But this kitschy stuff always gets me.

While watching Friends! I've been binge watching on Netflix lately.  Brings back good memories of me and my Sissy catching Thursday night primetime together.  :) 

Crafting From Bed: No Sew Pan Protectors

This great post from DIY Network Made+Remade contributor Emily Fazio shows how to make no sew pan protectors, which I realized I needed after seeing some scratches in my new pots.  I put paper towels in between until I created a more permanent fix.  I would love to have a sewing machine here at my home, but I don't have much room and can't see myself dropping a lot of money on one right now.  We'll see though because Jo-Ann's always has sales and coupons!

Materials needed:
-Felt; I got 1 yard and made 5
-Aleene's Fabric Fusion
-Paper to create your template
-Cardboard; makes cutting template easier to use
-Scissors
-Pen

 Distracted. I was watching a documentary while making these.  LOL!  Maybe that's why I started to not have the patience for evenness after awhile.

 I'm a regular at my neighborhood Jo-Ann Fabrics and the cashier was kind to give me a double discount.  This project was only $8!

 Created an asterisk template.

 Cut it out - meh, its crooked.  The Virgo in me didn't care that much since these aren't going to be really seen.

 I made 4 of the asterisk shaped ones at first since I didn't know if they were going to work for all of the pots and pans.

 Just fits on the bottom of the cast iron skillet.  

 Fits nicely between the smaller frying pans.

I did have to make 5 larger ones for the bigger and deeper pots and pans.  I didn't mess with trying to trace out a larger asterisk so just eft thee ones big squares.

Cost: $8

Skill level: Easy, especially if you're not a perfectionist.  I will probably revisit pan protectors if/when I get a sewing machine.

Crafting From Bed: Urban Oasis Terrarium

Another easy, cute project from Darby Smart.  I have a black thumb sometimes, so I hope this air plant stays alive!

Cost: $19

Skill Level:  Easy

Would I recommend this to a friend:  Yes!  Super easy and this kit comes with plenty of extra rocks and moss.  You could make another terrarium easily, just have to find air plants at a local nursery.  Thinking I would like to hang this somewhere, but for now its on my nightstand.

Crafting From Bed: Darby Smart - Pocket Terrarium Necklaces

These were so fun to make!  I can definitely see myself making more of these for gifts.  Second in the Crafting From Bed series, I made these on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Everything you need is in the box!  The sand, moss, chain and jewelry finishings.  Down to the different pliers you need, it is all in the box!

This Crafting From Bed really does happen on my bed.  And I have my piles of laundry waiting for me to fold, but first, let's have some fun!

Instructions are not included, but rather you log online for instructions that include photos of each step.

I made the top of the box my work station.  All the items I placed to the side on the bubble wrap the vials were wrapped in.

 To make getting the sand easier and less messy, I placed the vial in the bag with the sand.  It took a few tries, but I got the right amount in eventually.

The moss is pretty fluffy, so you will need something to help place it.  The needle nose pliers included was helpful.

 Capped then inserted the eye screw for the chain to go through.  Be sure the cork is well placed.  I would even suggest putting adhesive like E6000 to ensure it doesn't open.

Cut the chain the length you want it and place jump rings on each end then the lobster claw closure and you're done!

Something to note about the pliers is that the lubrication will seep during your initial use due to the movement.  Be mindful as you use these tools and wipe as needed.  It took me a minute to figure out where these black smears on my hands were coming from!

Tada!  Two beautiful and easy to make terrarium necklaces.  I love how cute these are!

Skill Level: Easy

Would I recommend this to a friend?  Yes!  To keep and give!  Someone is going to get one of these necklaces and I have enough of the sand and moss to make more.  I just need to purchase some chain and jewelry finishings which I can easily find at my neighborhood Jo-Ann Fabrics.

I think I'm liking Darby Smart!  Still would not purchase a subscription just yet and like that I can choose the projects that I want.  I was able to use another coupon for another order so I have more projects coming my way!

Crafting From Bed: Pasties!

I do a lot of things from bed.  Guilty of eating while watching Netflix from bed on the daily.  I wonder if I had my desk in my bedroom, if I would do more from there or not?  Probably not!  Well I was recently in a burlesque show and we needed some twirly pasties so I hit up Pinterest for some ideas and made some for our group.  Not the best quality, but they served their purpose once we stuck them on with carpet tape (ouch!).  I was impressed with some of the other performers pasties, especially Lily Divine's for her "Hungry Eyes" act.  Hilarious!  Well, there maybe more pasties from bed made in the future.  You don't have to be in burlesque to make & enjoy these!

Materials used:

Craft foam

String sequins - you can use whatever fabric or decoration for this.  The string sequins made this pair easy to just apply adhesive and wrap around.

Pearl cord - to make the tassels.  I could not find tassels at Joann Fabric, but I heard there are some in the upholstery area.

E6000 adhesive

Fabric for the backing

Bobby pins - to clamp the foam while the adhesive dries.  

Something circular to trace - that is large enough to cover around the nips!

Pasties - Tutorial
