Another mineral make up brand to try!

I read on Vanessa's blog that Purely Cosmetics Olive Beige is a perfect match for her skintone! As in my previous post, I have been looking for mineral make up that is paraben and bismuth free & Purely Cosmetics was another brand that fit the bill! I ordered the econo sample kit in Olive Beige (Medium), Olive Beige (Skin Smoothing) and Cornsilk (Medium). Since my Fall/Winter skin fades from my usual golden delicious brown, I went for lighter shades. I think that Vanessa and I have similar skintones (lighter tan with yellow undertones) and ordered the same colors!

The Search For New Mineral Make Up

I am finally using up the remainder of my BE foundations and am on the hunt for alternatives. While I have been lucky that I haven't had any reactions to BE, a couple of my girlfriends haven't had the same luck. I tried Silk Naturals foundation and had great results, but the whole process of finding out my shade by mixing brown and white powder was too tasking. I'm looking for a product that matches my skintone and does not have any of the icky irritants in their ingredients! Ms. B has been happy with her Everyday Minerals , so I placed an order for some samples to try that out. I also found Signature Minerals which boasts on their site that there is "NO bismuth. NO cornstarch. NO talc. NO parabens. NO dyes. NO worries!" My reviews on those when I receive them and test them out. Do any of you have any suggestions? Let me know! :)

NYC Cosmetics Smooth Mineral Loose Foundation Powder with SPF 12

I'm big on mineral make up and am totally over BE. Been there, done that - way over priced! And the sizes of product in the kits are becoming smaller. :( I have been trying to find a good shade that didn't require mixing 2 colors. I saw this at Wal-Greens and was curious as to how the coverage would be. If you look at my previous entry, you can see that it covers pretty well, but I don't have that much to cover. I would categorize this as a medium coverage foundation, so if you're looking for something that will hide all flaws, you would want to cover areas with a concealer first, then follow up with this.

The marketing on the package really sold me as well. Talc free, irritants free and won't clog pores! Sounds good to me! I have a couple of friends who are allergic to ingredients in BE foundation, so this may be a good option for them. What's also good is that there is also an SPF 12 in the product itself. I already wear an SPF 25 from my moisturizer, but its good to know that there is coverage from my foundation as well.

Overall, it was a good deal - $7. The brush is crap though. Scratchy and is useless for application. Throw that out! I got the darkest color out of the selection, so this isn't a great product for women of color. Its totally made for haoles. I don't think I would purchase this after I have finished the product, but if you're new to mineral make up, are light to medium shade in skin tone and don't want to spend too much then this may be something for you to try. If you purchase from drugstores like Rite Aid, they have a guaranteed return policy, so if you're not happy with it, you can return it as long as you have your receipt.
